I'd better add that it is only a foul IF the free ball is snookering ALL balls that are or could be on.
You are only the best on the day you win.

So if pink and black are left on and I am left snookered by the black by an opponent who commits a foul, free ball is declared and I can nominate the black as pink and intentionally snooker my opponent with the black without penalty?

          Yes.

The Rule is Section 3 Rule 10(b)(ii)-

It is a foul if the cue-ball should be snookered on all Reds, or the ball on, by the free ball thus nominated, except when Pink and Black are the only object balls remaining on the table.

Today is a statue kind of day.

Interesting. I wonder why this exclusion was put in the rules.

I think, because if you need more than one snooker and get a free ball, it would be potentially useless because there would be no legal way of creating another snooker.

Obviously you could pot the free ball black and then lay another snooker, and you would perhaps usually do that for the extra 6 points.
