If we are talking about mechanically then Ding, John Higgins, Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry spring to mind. If we talking aesthetics then Ronnie is king for me, with Stephen Lee, Paul Hunter, and Jimmy White in respected runner-up positions.
I often use large words I don't really understand in an attempt to appear more photosynthesis.
you are right kennymhs. In his heyday, he was the best cueist of them all and also one of the best tacticians.
Today, there are several who all have very good actions and there is nothing to choose between most of them. Then there are some that do not have such a good cue action, but they can still pot very well.
:snooker:
Has to be ron for me with his effortless free flowing action. Cant fault davis, higgins or the other machine like styles though. Ron is so very easy to watch and enjoy.
I personally can't stand him either , it's just how smooth and flowing his cue action looks to me
I see what you're both getting at. It's a bit of a smarmy cue action, if that's possible. A sort of exaggerated smoothness to it. Then there's that overly-aggressive first feather!
I personally cant see that much of a difference between most of the good cueists. I cant see much of a diffence between the likes of Murphy, Lee, Hendry etc, but i think Ronnie's (even though i'm not a fan of his) is so natural, definately looks the most natural to me.

Sort it out, Shaun!
I laughed very loud and got a lot of strange looks when i read this. It's totally true though. lol.
Having played against Steve Lee and Jimmy White, and therefore seeing their cue actions close up, I would say Steve gets through the ball very well. Silky smooth action, and he generates so much power. Definitely one for the purists
It would be John Higgins for the cue action most players should take example of, although to be picky he is a little long on his backswing, but i can say that as i was his coach for a no of years.
Ronnie's and Jimmy's are lovely to watch but not so easy to copy consistently.
Other than that i would say mines is not too back.
