Maybe because we are looking at ways of providing streaming without going broke. I see a lot of stream sites promoting online gambling, so maybe these ones have investors who hope to get cashed up. But I wonder what happens when the investment dwindles and the investors dry up? I know that banner ads won't pay for it.

I don't know whether you got this or not, but there is a fellow here in Canada who has the WPBSA broadcast rights and he is planning to officially launch the site at the start of the worlds.

            The website is - lovesnooker.ca -.

For the rest of TSF not from Canada, I didn't ask him whether it works world-wide, but I suspect not.

Right now he does have some matches from the Masters up there and video and audio quality are good

              Noel - THANKS -

Ted looks like the site I've been looking for since I first started surfing.

                Thanks Terry.

I am in England, and have just viewed this website, where I was watching a recording from the 2009 Shanghai Masters. The quality is impressive - as good as my tv!

Just hope that live broadcasts are available.

Because of the licensing agreement he has with the WPBSA he says he cannot live stream the matches as he has to wait until the BBC sends him each session.

He says he has it all on automatic but there would be a 3-hour delay from the live matches which almost works out to Canadian's favour as we are 4, 5 (or more for Vancouverites) hours behind the UK

I'm surprised it can be accessed from outside Canada as he only has the license for North America (or so he tells me). He runs a media company and will be prociding this service for free and there will be a library of every match in the BBC's archives eventually and of course this will also mean you can watch all the latest matches whenever you want.

I can watch the BBC live on my tv.

People in other countries may not have that privilege, so a 3 hour recorded delay is very acceptable.

Terry, you mention that the guy who runs this new snooker site, lovesnooker.ca, has a license for North America, and that includes the USA, so we should be able to watch the videos too, correct? You seem to be making a distinction with regard to Canada, but if his license is for NA, that should include the US and Mexico (for that matter).

I doubt if his service can tell where the viewer is logging on from, so this type of agreement is next to useless.

At best a licence like this can only apply to a home address or where the server is located.

The BBC was pretty effective at stopping anyone from outside the UK being able to watch their live streams, i know some people found a way round it by using a proxy but i heard was almost more effort than it was worth in the end.

This site sounds great!, would be great to have access to recordings of all the broadcast matches rather than just praying someone uploads the match you want to watch to youtube.

I do hope you're right about the site not being able to tell im logging on from Australia though

OK, then how do the BBC and Skysport limit their service geographically? From Canada I can't access either one and with the BBC feeds I get a notice that only UK residents are allowed and I am limited geographically.

Also get a similar notice from SkySport.

I'm fairly certain they can tell where you are geographically from your numerical IP address number as every country is assigned specific country codes within those IP addresses.

                              Terry,

Thanks so much for pointing out this new snooker site. The videos are top flight, although there aren't many right now. If he has a license, I wonder why he only has one match from the Shanghi tournament? I was hoping he'd have a large archive with all of the matches, but it's a nice start. Hopefully as time goes by he can upload more and more.

I heard about thebox once, of course here you would still need to pray, but the quality and length wise it's way better than youtube.
Don't think it'd be too legal; but then it's mostly british stuff on it, so I don't know much about it.
