Can somebody explain to me the difference between a "Miss" and a "Foul and Miss". An EASB qualified referee in our league mentions them as separate rules.
    Cheers

As far as I know the "Miss" rule is in Section 2, definitions, and states simply that a Miss is where the player fails to hit a ball on and the referee considers that he has not made a good enough attempt.

The "Foul and a Miss" rule is in Section 3, The Game, which goes into the proper application of the Miss call.

Therefore, while they are strictly speaking separate rules, the "Miss" rule in itself cannot be applied without referring to the "Foul and a Miss" rule so they can be considered as one.

(Rather like the definition of "Foul" in section 2 which cannot stand alone; you'd need to refer to section 3 to determine how and when to call a foul, and what value to give it.)

Thanks Statman, much appreciated. The referee in question is a funny bugger and I just want to clarify it with him.
          Cheers
