So a player reaches the interval at 2-2, not feeling too good and mentions to a friend that the way things are going he might well be joining him on the next flight home.

I am unsure as to whether Anda's English is of a sufficiently high level to discern shades of levity in a native speaker's casual comments. Perhaps too much is being read into this.

In the case of having flights booked, this is most likely. The open return reservation can then be postponed or brought forward as required. Ronnie is unlikely to first lose and then realize that he needs to start thinking about looking for a flight home.

A player wishing to lose and go home could do so in a less obvious manner. I get the impression Ronnie's mind was not working quite so rationally.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle.He didn't really want to win but he didn't want to lose either,at least not on purpose.He probably hoped his opponent would play well enough to beat him fair and square but as this didn't seem to happen he tried to somehow help things a bit.

I feel sorry for the sponsors who make an effort to stage a big event and then get the number 1 player playing to lose. It cannot go unpunished.

Even though Ronnie is one of my favourite players, i think his behaviour has been appalling and this latest incident just sends Snooker sliding down the dumper even more.

Favourite player or not, there is no more excuses or justifications that anyone can try bail him out with. Anyone trying to defend these latest actions, simply cannot be taken seriously.
