  • Which professional snooker player gives you the best impression of goodsportsmanship?

    Over the last 20 years.

    For me,

    1) Stephen Hendry
    2) Marco Fu

A lot of them to be honest. I think it would be easier to phrase the thread the other way.

The best for me: John Higgins, Steve Davis and Ken Doherty. We have all seen acts of petulance from most players, but minimal from the three that I have named.

      Davis and Fu.
Have seen pretty much all of the tops guys play, but I have never seen so much as either Davis or Fu slam a cue on the floor.

Too many to mention , certainly would,nt put John Higgins or Stephen Hendry there , not the best of losers at all .For me good sportmanship is also being gracious in defeat and giving your opponent the credit they deserve .

I've seen John Higgins petulantly smack the table on a fair few occasions. I would have to agree with Steve Davis being the best with regard to this.

Steve Davis - always! Nobody comes anywhere near him in that way!

No way is it John Higgins. It is a wonder that John Higgins has not broken his hand on the table with hitting it. The table has shuddered at times

Steve Davis is probably the best at the aforementioned subject. No-one really comes near him, MOST players are great losers and great sportsman, that is probably half of the reason why the sport is such a great one.

Can i add another that hasnt been mentioned??
Shaun Murphy - A bit too smarmy for my liking, but always a gent.
Would also agree with Davis & Fu.

Ye thats why he got a frame cropped off Maguire when he forgot his chalk and asked permission to go and get it .

Murphy approached the referee to complain and as a result he was docked a frame , i cant think of any other player doing this , so you can discount Murphy in my book .

Considering that he had an almost pathological hatred of losing, Steve Davis' sportsmanship is admirable.
How about adding Gentleman Joe to the list?

Aside from the Maguire incident, there was the one with Robertson who didn't have his extension and when Murphy loses, he has blamed condition - table, not on TV, played poorly. Cheating on his wife is hardly sporting or gentleman like either!

As for Fu, the times when he touched the ball against ebdon 2006 WC and Murphy 2008 and it wasn't called by ref even though the ball moved and Fu also didn't cal. Snooker is renowned for honesty in these circumstances and I don't know of any other player who has done that once never mind twice.

In my opinion, Davis and Ebdon asre both very sporting. I'm a Hendry fan, but he has never been a 'sporting' loser but I don't slate him for that as he is such a great winner and is magnaminous in that respect.
