  • How many leagues still play Billiards

I'm sorry if this has been on the forum before just new on here.
How many who plat in local leagues still play billiards?
I've just been made vice chairman of our local league after the previous set up resigned on mass, we're getting it sorted out but for the first 18 weeks of the season we play Billiards, not one who enjoys the game so much I'm trying to alter things next season, your comments would be welcome.
    thanks

Our bury st Edmunds snooker league also has a billiards league running along side it one week you play snooker the next it's billiards it works quite well with two divisions in each I have really only played the snooker but did get a call up for one billiards match when they were short And won much to the regular team's annoyance lol.The billiards consists of 3players each playing 40 minutes
So it's Rorschach and Prozac and everything is groovy

We play billiard - Stafford & District League.
the season runs from end of August up to Xmas.
We have 2 divisions - 1st div play up to 150, 2bd div play up to 100.
      5 players per side.

I enjoy playing it - it makes a changes from snooker, a lot of the same teams play both snooker and billiard seasons, and the difference for some individuals each quite amazing dependent on the season.

Our league is in decline both for snooker and billiards, but i would be opposed to dropping the billiards in favour of a longer snooker season - even as an experiment - because once its gone, it will never get reinstated.

Not aware of too many leagues about - maybe try here:

In the Edinburgh area these days there are only 6 teams compared to 30 plus snooker teams. Most clubs don’t even have billiards players let alone a team, it’s dyeing out in my opinion.
I would have to say that the average age of the players would be around 50 plus. I think the problem is the younger players don’t have anyone to show them how to play the game and the ones that do know how to play the game just don’t play it. A few of the old billiards players just moan that all the young lads can do is pot balls, it seems to really get them mad lol.
With this in mind I can’t see a future for the game in Edinburgh but I could just be talking rubbish her indoors is always saying so.
              lol

Cleveland Billiards and Snooker League run individual billiards knock-out comps, snooker & billiards combined knock-out comps, a two-man billiards knock-out comp, and a combined summer league (2 snooker players, 1 billiard player)
Locally, Middlesbrough & Hartlepool have Billiards leagues running.

I think the state of the game varies around the country, i think in the North East they have traditionally had boys leagues and knock outs so youngsters are brought up around the game.
Where I play, i only really got into it because of the older fellas showing me how to play.

you do get some players who pot white and then get as many reds as they can, and up to a certain level i think it works - but like everything else i think you need to work at the game to get the most out of it - some are prepared to, others are not.

Exeter and District League play billiards and maybe Plymouth as well.
You are only the best on the day you win.
