  • Local leagues How many players per Team

Just interested in how your local league works on the snooker side.
How many players in a team? is it handicapped? How many frames do you play?
Up North in Carlisle we have a 5 man team 1 frame each.
We also have The Famous Grouse knockout which is handicapped in such a way that it is the aggregate of all 5 frames that in the opinion of the team I play for makes it more of a team game as every ball counts, than 5 individual frames?
Thanks in advance for any replies

    Hello Detroitman.

In my local league (the harrow and district league), we have a 6 man team and we play 2 frames, so either a win, draw or lose. We also have other competitions alongside the league, such as the Dwyer Bowl (which Martin Gould won for like 4 or 5 years in a row), The Poore Cup with pits any team in any division and is handicapped, the Barry Shine Trophy (which is like a smaller version of the Dwyer Bowl for less skilled players), and a doubles competition. I'm not sure if we have any more.
Here's a link to my league's website if you are interested:

Hi, I play in the Farnham & Aldershot league on the Hampshire/Surrey border. We use a 4 man team and play 1 each, we have 4 divisions so no handihap in the league. But we have a handicap knockout at the end of the season.

The two leagues I referee in (Dawlish & District and Torbay) are as follows:

Dawlish: Best of 5 frames, with each player playing a maximum of 2 frames and no player, unless by mutual agreement of both captains, to play consecutive frames. All players handicapped between -50 and +50. Home team to write their order of play BEFORE the match starts. All cup matches (singles, doubles, seniors, team KO) are handicapped. Only exception to above is that in the Team KO, players names are drawn out of a hat.
Torbay: Best of six frames, home team writes order down on card, card folded over so that away team cannot see order of play). Handicapped players only in Premier Division. Various competitions are either handicapped or scratch and vary on how many frames played. One doubles tournament is best of 5 frames, played in order of singles (Team A Player 1 v Team B player 1), singles (Team A Player 2 v Team B Player 2), doubles, singles (Team A Player 1 v Team B Player 2), singles (Team A Player 2 v Team B Player 1).
        Hope that helps.
You are only the best on the day you win.

we play 6 man teams playing 1 frame each frame 1 point all off handicap -35 to +35. we also run individual ko which is best of 3 final best of 5 all run off handicap. in the doubles we half the handicaps to make it a bit fairer and a 3 man team 1 frame each off full handicaps but aggregate scoring so you have to play to the black each frame and total points wins. in the team ko we play like a league match but incase its a draw 3-3 we also play aggregate scores so if its 3-3 points wins if points are same black ball respot.

I play in the Epsom & District League . 4 divisions . No handicaps in the league only if you play in the singles competion .
Format : 3 man team with each player playing 2 frames on the night .

Not sure i could go out to play just one frame on the night . Seems to work well with 3 players .
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

Our league runs with three players required on a match night. In the top division, the three games are best-of-3 – if you win 2-0 you get 3 points; a 2-1 win gives you two points and the other guy 1 point.

In the lower divisions it's two frames each, six frames total.

Points (i.e. frames) decides the final table. All done off scratch.

In our team knock-out cup, it's aggregate scores over the 6 frames and that is handicapped. But it is the team rather than the individuals that are handicapped, based on the league table at the halfway stage. The handicap is start-per-frame.

In my league we have 5 on each team, each playing 2 frames in on the night, so 10 in total. It works pretty well - 2 tables are used at once, starting around 8o'clock ish, usually finish around half 10. Season's finished now though until September!

I play in the Manchester Snooker League (www.manchester-snooker-league.com). 5 on each team, 1 point per frame won and 2 points for the combined aggregate for all the frames. So you can potentially win/lose 7-0. Its handicapped, lowest -60, highest +40. We have 3 individual competitions, pairs, 3 man knockout, 5 man knockout and vets. At the end of the season we have a ranking competition where the top 8 players play-off one frame each round robin for player of the year. You get 3 points per frame won in the league, 1 point per individual round won and 1/4 point for a 50+ break (35+ break in the B league).
