Well, the last few months ive become greatly interested in snooker and i would really love to attempt to do it as a career. Now i know the chances of this are very slim, and at the minute im not too good. Im 15 years old, almost 16. Do you think its too late for me to practise like hell and try and make a name for myself in the snooker world? I mean, nothings impossible if you try hard enough...

Get yourself a coach work and hard practice all you can, if there is no coaches in your area see your club champion and ask if he can give you pointers or he might know someone.
Books can help to start with to help you understand what you are doing but you will really need a coach and a good practice partner.
If you keep on practicing you will improve.
World champion i dont know? But if you love the game you will be better at a game that you love !
Good Luck Champ

lol like i said, im pretty shocking atm. May sound daft, but my max break is probably high 20's. Im thinking about practising literally every day for the next few years. Im not one to give up, and if i start doing it ill stick to it till im decent. I was just thinking that all the up and coming players in the world championships are 18ish i think? So that gives me just a couple of years. I dont have anyone to practise with, i have 2 people i know that play but not very often and not to a very good level. How much are you talking for a coach?Last edited by monkey; 30 April 2010, 12:42 PM.

Dennis Taylor started quite late I think. Age doesn't matter too much. Ability does matter though and if your high break is late 20's you have a long long way to go. Give it a go though, find a good coach, there are some on here if you ask around. Coaching can vary between £10 - £40 or more per hourForget it, Donny, you're out of your element

An excellent exercise with a plastic bottle, I do it sometimes at home.

Sorry kid, you may think that 18 year olds at the World Championship means you have 3 years to get better, but those 18 year old were knocking in centuries at 12/13 and 147's at 14/15. You would have to be a prodigy at the game to become a pro by 18. I'm not saying you can't improve enough to become a pro eventually, but realistically your advancement in the game depends on talent, hard work, desire, and temperament. If you became a pro by the age of 21 it would be a miracle of the modern world.I often use large words I don't really understand in an attempt to appear more photosynthesis.

People improve a different rates and say if someone plays everyday for 8-10 hours a day for three years and gets the right coaching who are we to say what standard that person can obtain in that time frame? It would be hard but by the age of 21 it is not impossible. I think you need some natural talent to begin with but I think it is possible. Small raindrops can sometimes become a waterfall eventually.

It's very possible.
Practice intelligently for the upcoming summer - do 8 hrs minimum a day.
In that time you should be able to start making 60-70.s If you can do that, then next tester will be your temperament. If you are tough enough, no problem. But you will find that out after few years of tournament play.

He'll if your too old. I'm 21, 22 in July.. The way I see it is if I practice enough there's no reason I can't be at least on the circuit in the next 6 years and world champion at 30-35... Nothing wrong with that that's 15 years time lol
Look at allthe top players forget the young ones for now they aren't the ones winning anything, higgins, o Sullivanetc there all in their 30'swhat a frustrating, yet addictive game this is....
