  • Names on the trophy

Does anyone know where I can find the list with the names written on the World Snooker Championship trophy?
All I know is that Horace Lindrum's name is on the trophy, Joe Davis' victories are also there and surely the name of the Crucible champions. But, the champions of World Match Play are there? How about the Challenge matches won by John Pullman?
I hope someone knows the answer. Thank you.

I don't think the challenge matches with Pullman will be on there, otherwise he would be considered 7 time world champion.

Every other name will be on there though, every tournament since 1927

Adding to that, it is interesting that, with the exception of one of Fred Davis's appearances plud Dennis Taylor, up to 1996 all the names are inscribed Initial-Surname.

From 1997, it is inscribed with First name-Surname, except Stephen Hendry in 1999 who is shown as S. Hendry.

Not sure that they've engraved RObertson's name yet and not sure whether the J is there in Mark J Williams.

I'm not sure how the Pulman challenge match era is represented but I'm sure he wont be on there more than once per year if he's there at all. Not sure, also, about the date given for the 1970-71 season - an interesting one.

I also have a feeling that the 1999 Hendry inscription adds MBE at the end.

I have a feeling Pulman's name is on there 7 times.

I've read somewhere that after beating Clark McConachy at Houldsworth Hall, Manchester, Horace Lindrum returned home to Australia with the trophy and there it remained until around about 1957/58 when he announced he was retiring from Championship play as "unbeaten world champion". He duly returned the trophy back to the BA&CC.

Did you know, Horace's wife Joy was a secretary at the BA&CC in London? Ted Lowe was best man at the wedding.

I think that it is written 1926-1927 J. Davis. I mean, the season not only the year and it coult be MBE at Hendry's name. I don't have any idea about Mark J Williams.
The best way to find out is a photo.

Yes, very true. Now you've said that I am certain that is the case for the years engraved on the main body of the trophy. I have seen a picture but can't find one of it on the internet. I think they changed to putting the 'actual' year it was played in, when they had the base added.

The Championship was stretched over the whole season until 1973 when they condensed it into 2 or 3 weeks played at Manchester City Halls.
