I was at the club tonight, and a couple of guys called me over, to give some advice on a foul, and what to do next. The situation was this:-
4 guys are playing doubles, and team A is 7 points ahead of team B, and at the table. There is only the black left on the table. So if team A pots the black, then they win by 14 points.
What follows is that a team A player, tries to fine cut the black in, and misses the black ball completely. The cue ball travels up and down the table, and rests near the black, setting up an chance for team B to pot it easily.
The player from team A calls me over, claiming that as there is a foul, and the game drawn, then the black should be re-spotted, and the white placed in the D, and the customary flip of the coin.
First of all I explained, that I had never seen or heard of this situation before, but as far as I was concerned, as the black hadn't been potted, or neither had the white gone in-off, then both balls were still "active", and so team B could play the black from where the white had landed, or put team A back in to shoot again.
Like I say, I have never encountered this before, and I'm looking for advice or a precise ruling, from any official referees, that may be here on the forum.
