    Nice post Roy, I suppose in the grand scheme of things human life (or life on the planet) is in the modern era.

    For me it starts post Pullman, then there are those who say post Crucible, I recently heard Hendry described as the first great champion of the modern era.

    I think the ridiculous obsession with century breaks is slowly but surely making the modern era more and more recent in many peoples eyes.

    Although of course, Peall was very much an innovator.

      Yes - since rankings began in 1976 the finalists ranked outside the top 16 are Griffiths (79), Murphy (05), Selby (07) and Dott (10).

      This year's was only the second final in which neither player was ranked in the top 8, the other being in 1981 (Davis (13) v Mountjoy (14)).
