  • Clubs around and in Edinburgh area?

A sign of the times and the continuing recession probably, but every time me and my mate get settled in a club with decent atmosphere and tables....it either closes down or morphs into something else!

Can any of you guys recommend somewhere in the Edinburgh area that will welcome a couple of new members and has a good vibe with decent tables?

We only play a couple of times a week max, but are fairly serious about the game and enjoy well looked after tables.

    Thanks
    Col

Col There's also a small club in Manse Road, Corstorphine. The Locarno (in Slatford) is where I play. There's 7 tables. Right next door there's The Shandon. Same owner I think. As well as snooker tables the Shandon has a couple of pool tables.
Personnally I like The Locarno. Nice bunch of lads. Ashbash on this Forum plays in the team. Nice guy. During the day Monday to Friday its £3.00 per hour. Evenings and weekends its a fiver. They have a weekday deal for £8.00 which entitles you to play from 9 am till 6 pm. Great value. Also have a deal where you collect vouchers. 8 visits gives you 2 free hours. Membership is free. If you need any more info get in touch.

Col Also Angles over at Morningside. The Club at Broxburn. Bathgate Working mens club, (bit ropey). Livingston closed down last year. There's one over Jock's Lodge area. Might be Rileys mentioned by Thomas.

          Thanks for the info folks.
We had been going to the New Yorker at Jocks lodge for a while so I knew about that one. Stopped going there after they screwed up our booking more than once and were very unapologetic to say the least. Played at Bonnyrigg for a while after that which was a great wee club owned by Mike Leslie.
Mikes now changed it into a Sports Bar leaving just the one table I think.
          Might give Shandon a go.
          Thanks again.

The Shandon and Locarno are owned by Paul Marinello who is a friend of Mike Leslie. Get in there and introduce yourselves

All depends on were about you are mate? In the west of the city you have just about all the clubs Locarno and the Shandon as big break says there both owned by Paul, mikes mate. If you fancy a game in there give me a shout we could do with a few more players for next season if you’re interested.
I would stay away from the world of snooker aka corn exchange its Bert demarcos club but the tables are very poorly looked after and it’s not the cheapest place to play. The manse club is a nice club the tables are ok and the regular lads down there a nice bunch but not the cheapest place to play. The angle club is a really nice club but seeing as it’s in one of the most expensive areas of town the prices are equally as expensive.
Sad but there used to be a few clubs in the east of the city but there all shut down now, strange as some of the best players to come out of Edinburgh over the last 10 years or so seem to have come from that side of town.

Yeah, deal is still on Monday to Friday. Saturday nights and all day Sunday as well I think. Canny whack-it! Club opens at around 9.00 am ish and you can play/practice till 6.00pm for 8 quid. There's a hard-core of us guys who take advantage of this offer. Normally Tuesday and Thursdays (afternoon) are the popular days but "Jackpot Ronnie" is snooker-loopy and finds it hard to miss a day without his fix of a line-up. (Definitely NO pun intended.) Ronnie is captain of The Allstars team who play out of The Locarno and is one of the nicest guys you could meet. Fanatical about his snooker and always up for a game.
PS Wonder what happened to Col??
