  • Ball Colours

Does anyone know the official colours for professional snooker balls? That is the RGB values.

Im making a CGI representation of a snooker table and rather than just play it by eye Im wondering if there are official colours.

Have you seen the variation in colour from set to set? As I've refereed around the country over the last 20 years, there is an enormous variation in colour, especially with green, blue and pink. However, the new championship balls do seem to be quite consistent.

I know, Ive seen cue balls more yellow than some yellows but, I was wondering if there is an official range. Especially considering they have probably factored in what works best on the TV and whoever is commissioned to make the championship balls probably has a strict criteria to meet.

The colours Im using at the moment I have just second guessed and it is the Pink that is proving the most difficult to just "look right". If its of any interest Im currently using. Amaranth Pink (Hex: #F19CBB) (RGB: 241, 156, 187)

That pink looks a bit dull to me.

            thanks for the hints.

Here is what the balls currently look like when I render them all. Of course I have just guessed colours.

You're right about the pink being dull, the yellow is a bit dull too. I'll increase the intensity a bit on those.

I might try darkening the green slightly as well. Plus I think I need to play around with the white as well, it looks grey. What do you think?

I may as well also ask what you think about the reflections, shine, gloss and general appearance of the balls?

This is the Aramith site. They make the balls.
Of course they have the best accurate colour control over their product imagery.
You may find the reference you need there mate.
Or, you can email them for the correct RGB values and/or
Pantone reference numbers for 4-colour lithography.

                    BANANAS...

Here... on my monitor these colours are far more accurate...
in the image you posted their is a huge amount of data missing which cannot be colour-corrected without "repainting" virtually every ball...

The balls I post here have a reflection of the photographer in them.
If you like the overhead lights as reflected in your picture you can copy those, and replace them into other better ball shots.

                    Just an idea mate...

Its a motion graphics project for university. I have decided to try and make an intro sequence for the World Championship. This years one was the white horse and black bull.... mine though has a few more interesting twists but I cant give the secret away yet). I ll post it when Im finished.

The final piece will be in HD1080 so wont suffer the loss the sample picture had, and repainting the balls is not a problem, they are 3D simulations so I only have to change the material I have applied. Same for the reflection, its a simple enough process to alter.

Thanks for the picture though, they look accurate enough and I can use the eyedropper to find out roughly what they are.
