Why pool cue tip is so small?

Hi, i saw some pool cues, they are around 8.5mm small, why is it so small? I thought pool balls are larger than snooker balls?

if your talking about american pool you are correct the balls are much larger, however in 8ball they are slightly smaller than snooker balls and most people feel they get more action on the cue ball with the smaller tip.
