  • Novice with a novice question on tips.

    Hi Lads and Lassies.

Just got myself a new o'min cue which so far I am happy with the feel and weights of. The person I bought it of said it had a elkmaster tip.

When I started shapping the tip it had a totaly different feel and and texture to what I am used to. The tip on the new cue seems to be a hard layered brown tip kind of like the pictues of the talisman pro tip. When I look up elkmaster they look alot more leathery and grained texture and have a blue stain like the tips am used to.

I guess from a complete novice point of view am asking if anyone can throw some light on what my cue is tipped with and what difference it makes (last think I want to do is play with a manufactures cheap tip for the next 6 months)?

    Thanks.

mate, some elks aren't impregnated with chalk like the ones you've seen. mine was exactly the same and it just needs 5 minutes worth of chalking. if the chalk's not holding, rub lightly a few times on the face of the tip, it should do the trick
as for the hardness, it's probably just a personal thing and you're simply not used to it. everybody has their own preferences and maybe you like softer tips.
    hope this helps somewhat :snooker:

Ah yea i was guessing it was a harder compound.

Will try getting bit harsher sandpaer and knock it in a bit more. Just paranoid heard storis of pople playing with tip that whre made of rubbish from the manufacturer etc.

Dont use harsh sandpaper mucka you may end up ruining the tip .

Just a few light rubs to ensure to chalk bites , thats all thats needed .
