  • How Do I Get This To Barrry Hearn?

Now that snooker is getting more musical, it would seem that the time has come for a new snooker theme. Fortunately, Snooker Loopy has set a standard with a sufficiently low threshold to encourage my attempt

    The Music

    Going To The Crucible Toinght

    Going up to Sheffield
    Going to see the best
    Going to the Crucible tonight

    Got my potting boots on
    Got on my fancy vest
    Going to the Crucible tonight

    They play four frames
    And then it’s time
For tea or a spot of gin
    They take a break
    But very soon
    They’ll be back again

    Michaela Jan and Eirian
    Enforcing all the rules
Going to at the Crucible tonight

    Willie John and Dennis
    Chatting in my ear
    Going to the Crucible tonight

    Ronnie Wood and Dickie Bird
    Sitting in the crowd
    Going to the Crucible tonight

    The pressures do abound
    And fortunes ebb and flow
It’s only The Crucible that counts
    In the Theatre of Cruelty
    The champion will be crowned
    Going to the Crucible tonight

That would be a great in the video.
After all, the music does have its roots in the UK.
Perhaps the poster from Croatia does not appreciate this fact.

            Good gracious! No!

I thought that you must be anti American.

I assumed that your displeasure in my poor efforts was based on the cornball country music. Such music is derived from the British jigs and reels brought to America by immigrants.

As for the words, there are lots of snooker content

Sheffield - home of the Crucible, in northern England

Potting boots - Dennis Taylor's favourite expression

Fancy vest - players wear vests, and when snooker was it its prime the players were far more colourful that they are today. Kirk Stevens used to wear white or cream. Now they dress in black, for snooker's funeral.

We have a quaint break after 4 frames. Doesn't happen in, say. the Premier League or the Championship League

            Then we have the referees
            Michael Tabb
            Jan Verhaas
            Eirian Williams

            The BBC commentators
            Willie Thorne
            John Virgo
            Dennis Taylor
With the BBC live audio going to the earpieces of the audience

The spectators, apparently famous, pointed out by the commentators and flashed on the TV screen
            Ronnie Wood - musical person
            Dickie Bird - retired person

The Theatre of Cruelty - Clive Everton's description of the Crucible.
