My guess would be 1, the late Sydney Lee who refereed Pot Black in its early years.

Not many of the current professional referees would be professional players also and I'd say that very few of the professional referees from the past would have been professional players but many of them can play snooker to a reasonable amateur standard.

I seem to remember hearing once that ex ref Len Ganley once played at a decent level and had a highest break of 136..

Alan Chamberlain is a 147 merchant I believe.

Bob Chandler (Refereed at Qualifiers regularly) and Frank Adamson both from Bristol were both very good players and certainly century break players.

Is he? I seem to remember reading in Cue Sport magazine or Snooker Scene once that his highest was about 80 in snooker and billiards. Maybe I am getting mixed up or maybe he is being modest!

Billiards referee Sundar Jairaj, refereed the World Billiards Championship final, was a top player in India once, I think.

Alan Chamberlain is not a century breaker let alone a maximum man. However, Bob Chandler, as mentioned earlier, IS a maximum man.

No Alan was good but not a 147 man.

Bob Chandler is the 147 referee

Isn't that what I just said in post 9?

The late John Street used to play in the Exeter League. Don't know what his highest break was though.
