What is meant by the term helping side mean in snooker ? . If you can answere this let me know, and any helping hint's in :snooker general to with snooker shot's i would like to know please.:snooker:

Sorry to dissapoint u mate but unfortunatley there are no secrets to being good at snooker..some people will go further than others and some will just reach a level/standard and just simply never get any better no matter how many hours they practise !

No i dont mean secret's to being good at snooker i mean thing's like, when for example the shot when two ball's are touching off line to the pocket if you play the shot with left hand side it will make the plant by throwing the ball, and making the pot.

With the offset plant it isn't side that does it. It's effectively hitting the wrong side of the first ball which pushes the second ball in a different direction than you would think.
"Helping side" is I think more commonly called running side. This is usually when you put the same side on the white as the direction you want the object ball to move. But not always :-)
At your stage of learning I wouldn't recommend you experiment with side at all. It is a very difficult thing to get to terms with.
Just try to learn the potting angles when hitting the white in the middle.

Thank's for that info. i am not using side in my game as my coach say's forget all about side and just consentrate on my line-up's. I spend ten minute's at the begining of my practice session with hitting the white across the baulk line and then over the spot's.

I believe 'helping side' is a term more used in English Billiards where the player is attempting a winning hazard (is that the term for potting his cueball?) and he puts side on the ball which will help the cueball go into the pocket (in other words running side for the jaw he intends to hit.

Can some billiards player explain this better?
