The 1972 World Snooker Championship.

I watched the recent TV documentary about Alex Higgins and I was particularly interested in the coverage of the 1972 World Snooker Championship when he beat John Spencer.

They showed a photograph of them both with this trophy,

but this is obviously not the World Snooker Trophy, this is,

so my question is, what trophy is he holding in the first photograph? and why did they use it?

I think :
We now see the world champion trophy, perhaps a new trophy after World War II.
The trophy first appeared in 1948, when Fred Davis won the first time.
The Hurricane Higgins and Spencer in 1972 photograph of the trophy, it is probably the original trophy.
I have seen photo of Joe Davis won in 1927, the side that is the trophy.
