Nine-year-old Shane Castle missed out on a world record by 81 days! Shane said he would score a ton in a tournament before the end of 2007 and he kept his word: he made a nice 101 at the Rushden SC under-19 Grand Finals. So Michael White will retain the record for the youngest ever competitive century – at the age of 9 and 8 months. Shane's birthday will be will later this month. (Today's Daily Echo)

I coach 11-16 year olds on a daily basis and a couple younger than that who are ready to step up too but a 40 break at 8 is certainly a great start for the kid! The trick at that age is to keep it fresh and keep on making them want to play and not like a chore. An 12 year old I coach has made a 61 which is great but I cant talk about others only those than i see.Always play snooker with a smile on your face...You never know when you'll pot your last ball.

i think the younger the better, getting them on the big table will help there game, when i was young it was hard to go on the big table cos everyone kept saying your to small, was 18 when i did and had 69 in 3 months and a century after 6 months, wish i had opportunity to play big table at 9, i put my little boy on the big table at 8 so he can learn and he's very good already quickly learning
