3/4 cue or one piece??

Hi, I currently play with a 3/4 robert osborne red plate cue which i must admit i do love playing with, but for sometime now i have fancied a one piece cue but know they do play differently.Just really wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to whether one piece cues do play better or if it really is just personal preference at the end of the day? cheers! craig

i read an article before which talks about different types of cues. according to the article that 1 piece cue is the best in terms of playing as the cue is uniform and there is no joint which acts as the interference of the impact distribution. in another words 1pc cue will experience less deflex than other type cues. from my personal experience i found that 1pc cue feels more solid when striking than 1/2 jointed. have not played with any 3/4 cue yet,but i assume it should not differ much from the 1pc. hope this helps

But full piece you need to take extra care than jointed piece.

it's th same.. jointed you have to clean the joints too..
screw and unscrew every now and then.. surely it need extra care too..

I think it comes down to personal preference really, if it was a quality issue, i think all pros would play with a one piece, but you tend to find more are going for 3/4 these days, apparently just for convenience in terms of transport etc.

I have always played with a 3/4 until recently when i got myself a custom 1 piece and have never looked back, but i reckon a good cue maker can make a 3/4 cue as good as a 1 piece, just a bit more work involved i guess.

Would be intersting to hear thoughts of some of the cue makers on the forum though.

I wouldn't say more pro's are going for 3/4 these days, in fact I'd say its the opposite. Look at the current top 16, 9 out of the 16 all use 1 piece cues and that says something IMHO. For touch and feel, particularly on very fast responsive cloths and even on good club tables you can't beat a 1 piece. Look at the very best break builders in the game, Ronnie, Higgins, Ding, Murphy, even Hendry in his prime, they all use/d 1 piece cues.

Not saying you can't play with a 3/4 cue but there is a reason why so many of the great use 1 piece cues and its because they simply play better.

I think most pros will try to stick to cues that they have always used , whether that be one piece or 3/4 .

Ive had dozens of cues , mostly one piece but have also had some nice 3/4 and for me a good one is a good one and when you find one i dont think there is and difference in quality in how they play .

Fair point, them be the facts!! I know hendry and davis used 1 pieces when they were at the top, now they use 3/4's. Dont think i could ever go back to a split cue now though, I love my 1 piece, and it does just feel that bit more 'complete' than 3/4's i've had before. I think it is still down to what each individual feels comfortable with though.

I dont think this is true with all cues i had a one piece cue for a wile i played ok with it then i got it made into a 3/4 cue and it did not play the same so now i use a one piece.
