  • Where has hawk eye gone??

    Hi All,

Was reading another thread this morning where hawk eye was mentioned, and realised that it wasnt used(or, I didnt see it used) in the whole of the UK Championship, and i watched most of the matches. Normally John Virgo loves to refer to it every other shot!!!

    Anyone know where its gone?

They have scrapped it at the end of the contract which I think was 5 years.

Trying to reduce sosts and all that, I don't think it was used to its full potential as it is in other sports anyway.

I have never seen it being used to show, say every break off in a match and where the white ends up etc

I think it's a great piece of kit, but is obviously expensive. The BBC can afford to use it for commentary purposes though surely? We pay them enough in licence fees
      Cheers

Have you seen the amount of Hawk Eye technicians that are in the credits at the end of the events that use them? Must cost an immense amount to set it up at every event and keep it maintained. It's a good way of saving money, but its a shame they didn't keep the World Open though.

No loss from my point of view really, never thought that it was used effectively as has been said.

Yes, I only realised when it was mentioned in here and thought "oh yeah, didn't see it either".
If others like me didn't even notice, then its money well saved. Maybe WS can use what they saved on streaming some PTC's. Surely that can't be too expensive if no commentary.

I'm not sure WS actually pays for it though, it may be the broadcaster who foots the bill.

              Anyone know for sure?

Oh...good point. With the amount of grief the Beeb is getting these days I guess its fair enough. Nice piece of kit but was a gimmick and waste of money really on snooker...great for Wimbledon tho!
