Whats the rules on this

I've never seen this happen until last week, i've always wondered but never found out. My brother played a red went into the pack and got buried a red also came off the cushion and covered any escape to a colour. How would you play this situation.

I think you have to play in the right direction and at the right speed to hit the colour you nominate, obviously its a foul shot, but as long as you "tried" its ok

Yeah interestin I had no idea or advice to give him in the end he just smashed the white through the reds lol.

14. Foul and a Miss
The striker shall, to the best of his ability, endeavour to hit the ball on. If the referee considers the Rule infringed, he shall call FOUL AND A MISS unless only the Black remains on the table, or a situation exists where it is impossible to hit the ball on. In the latter case it must be assumed the striker is attempting to hit the ball on provided that he plays, directly or indirectly, in the direction of the ball on with sufficient strength, in the referee's opinion, to have reached the ball on but the obstructing ball or balls.


Basically you need to play a shot as if the obstructing ball was not there. It will be a foul but not a Miss, provided it was played with sufficient strength to have hit the nominated ball if the obstruction hadn't been there.
