From my calculations if Cope wins this tournament he will have had to play 16 matches to do so.

Has anyone ever won a tournament having had to play more. I imagine this must destroy any previous record.

Also will he have won more mathces than anyone else as well (this will be a longer number)

Or have we given birth to oneof those great quiz questions of where the same sounding question can have two different answers depending on how it is asked.

Yes, many more. 16 is hardly anything. I think the most ever is shown in message 538 on this thread

I think it certainly would be a record. In the early 1990s there were sometimes a huge number of qualifying rounds, up to 13 from memory maybe more but nobody came through them all.

Even if one of the other three wins they will have played nine matches which would probably be a record for a ranking event.

Dave Harold won 9 games to win the 1993 Asian Open, and that is the most I can find, but The Statman could probably shed more light on the situation than I can.

I think Ding won 9 games to win the uk last year as well.

If he wins the tournament, having already lost 3 matches, I would imagine it would also destroy any previous record for most matches lost in winning a tournament.

Thats the strange thing with this league format, O'Sullivan blew Cope away in the league but Cope has progressed to the final.

The key in this tournament is to hang in there during the league format and gradually improve throughout the knockout stages, exactly what Robbo and Cope have done.

Should be a great final, really looking forward to it.

indeed....conserve energy and try to win by not winding yourself up fully and get deeper into the matches as you progress. good sports advice on a lot of occasions
