To me Selby seems to be moving his head as much now as he was 2 or 3 years ago. I thought he had improved but I noticed it in the World Champs within seconds. No doubt he is playing brilliant but just thought it was weird when he seemed to have stopped the side to side sway.

He's never stopped moving on the shot from what I can see and I've been watching every tournament for the past 4 years or so. I think it's just a touch less than it used to be.

Selby was swaying like a goodun yesterday, even more so than usual i think...lol
After watching him lots and trying too figure out what's going on with him, i come up with this....It's a nerve thing, that's why he always sways, sometimes more sometimes less.
it's just his nerves playing up a bit due to the pressure, but boy he controls his nerves well eh.
more pressure more sway, he shakes like mad out there at times and the trembly nerves come out into a 'swaying' motion in his action...
Strange eh...

Have you tried it? It made me a little giddy however it did seem to give me a better 3D perspective, but the main thing is how still he is when he delivers the cue though the white ball. Stephen Hendry and others also look at the pocket while they are down beading up the shot. Another thing I tried without much luck apart from disorienting myself. One technique I personally tried and I look to see if I can see Pro's do this but inconclusive, but while actually getting down on my shot I look down at the cue and not at the point of the object ball I want to hit. I know this sounds crazy as you can get down anywhere however it improved my center ball striking 100% and with a flurry of practice achieved a 99 break and 80 break in a league and 3 other 90+ breaks and often cleared the table on line ups. I wore a tip out in 6 weeks and have never found that form again, from then on my big hang up was tips. However I do look closely at pro's and it does seem that in some their eyes do drift down to the cue while getting down on the shot? But one thing I do notice is there are as many quirks in players as there are players playing the game, maybe that is what is so fascinating about this wonderful game?

I've noticed this but the sway can be detected at distance, if you see him close up when taking a shot its like a tremor in his head and neck like there's something wrong with him, it's uncomfortable to watch. This looks like more than nerves, he doesn't do it whilst walking around the table and when in his seat, has he ever mentioned this in interview or any commentators commented?

I definitely think he's sighting the correct line when he sways - almost as if he's saying to himself "that's wrong, that's wrong, there it is" - now stay still.I often use large words I don't really understand in an attempt to appear more photosynthesis.
