  • Starter points to take a caning?

Is it correct that a Players starter points are based on the lowest score of the players for the previous year.

If so then does this mean that O Kane's missing of tournaments will be of detriment to new players next year who are likely to have to start on a lower starting point and therefore it will be harder for them to stay on the tour?

I don't know how starter points are calculated, but if it's based on lowest score of the previous year, does that mean starter point will go up year by year?

Starter points, as far as I know, are based on the lowest possible score someone could get if they had entered every tournament at the earlierst stage and lost every match.

I.e. if the #96 on the world ranking lost every first match, the number of ranking points he gets is the starter points for that season.

The Statman will correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure. :-)

I'm not absolutely sure that's exactly right, but it is along those lines.

I think there might be something like, equal to the nth player on the tour, which might be the lowest ranked player who was not himself promoted this year.

Was it last season, or the season before, that Steve James was similarly given a place on the main tour and didn't play in any tournaments?

mensions player join 06/07 season receives starter points equivalent to 8th player qualifying from the 1 year list, which is (4100)

            I don't quite understand

I think O'Kane will probably be given the points now he has entered both the Malta Cup and UK Champs - I assume his total of 0 is because he literally hadn't played on tour up to now.

Sarmu - what I think it means is the starter points correspond to the 8th best Tour debutant last year - the top 8 players who have only played one season on Tour get to stay along with the top 64 from the two-year list - anyone who finishes outside the top 8 has to hope somebody else has an exceptional debut season (e.g. Mark Allen, Jamie Cope) and gets in the top 64 on one year's results.

64 players qualify for the main tour from last season therefore there needs to be 32 more players. From the players who finished outside the top 64 the 8 players who gained the most ranking points in the previous season get to stay on. Therefore whoever came 8th on the list will be the player who sets the starter points for the new tour members.

                Does that make sense???????

I thought qualifying through the one-year list but finishing outside the top 64 only applied to players having their debut season on tour? Surely if your two-year points total isn't good enough for a top 64 place you'll get relegated?

It goes like this. These are how people from the main tour qualify for next years tour.

Top 64 on two year list qualify
Top 8 on one year list (outside top 64) qualify.

Alfie Burden finished outside of the top 64 but 8th on the one year list with 4100 ranking points therefore he was the lowest ranked main tour player to secure his place so any new players onto the tour got the same points as him. Hence everone new starting on 4100 ranking points.

I hope that clears it up
