    Just out of interest... What year did snooker form from billiards and who were the top pro's in the beggining???

    The generally accepted view is that snooker was invented in 1875 by Colonel Sir Neville Chamberlain in India. It was the combination of two games played on the billiard table; life pool and pyramids. The first set of rules were put together in 1875. Although these would have been very different to today's rules, they still had the same basic idea. Joe Davis was certainly the only real professional for many years, winning the first World Championship in 1927 and was unbeaten in the Championship up until his retirement in 1946.
