  • Terry Griffiths

Would it be correct to say that Terry played at the crucible in every year of his (professional) snooker career?

Would it be also true that he is the only player to achieve such a feit or are there others?

Griffiths played every year from his debut in 79 to his final appearance in 97 where he won one qualifying match before beating beaten 10-9 by Williams in the first round

the only other possible candidates are Ronnie osullivan who im sure has also played every year of his career & Stephen Hendry.

not sure whether Hendry turned pro in 84 or 85 bit his first crucible appearance was in 86 !!

I'm pretty sure that when Hendry reached the Crucible in 1986 it was his first season as a pro.

Silvino Francisco turned pro about 1980 and first appeared at the Crucible in 1982 - but it was his first entry into the championship. This list may help: http://www.thesnookerforum.com/showthread-t_1179.html

Stephen Hendry's first season, 1985/86, and indeed his first entry into to the Championship resulted, according to The Cue Sport Book of Professional Snooker, as follows:
        QR1 beat Bert Demarko 10-7
        QR2 beat Paddy Browne 10-9
        QR3 beat Wayne Jones 10-8
QR4 beat Dene O'Kane 10-9 (to thereby qualify for the Crucible)
R1 lost to Willie Thorne 8-10

As for Silvino Francisco, he played as a professional in the 1979 Limosin International, staged in South Africa and won by Eddie Charlton [beating Spencer in the final 23-19]. He first appears to have played on the 'main tour' when he entered the 1982 Embassy World Championships. His results were (using the same above mentioned reference) as follows:
        QR1 beat Chris Ross 9-0
QR2 beat Paddy Morgan 9-1 (to thereby qualify for the Crucible)
        R1 beat Dennis Taylor 10-7
        R2 beat Dean Reynolds 13-8
Q/F lost to Ray Reardon 8-13

But alas, for the benefit off this thread, he qualified (or was seeded) every year thereafter each year until 1990, when he lost in the final qualifying round to Gary Wilkinson, 10-7.

Thanks, Cyril. I didn't think Francisco DID do it, but I thought he was the only other player who COULD have done so.
