Protecting your cue while it's in its case?

I just bought a really nice mastercue rocket off ebay which came in a one piece leather case with an extension. My question is how do I make sure the extension doesn't knock into the cue inside the case?
I found a drawstring bag I can put my chalk in so it doesn't get the felt blue but i'm a bit concerned for my cue.

Does the leather case not have separate compartments, one for each piece of the cue? You could look for one that does, or buy a solid case with separate compartments. The drawstring bag is a good idea tho

If the leather case is snug, such that the pieces of the cue cannot move away from each other and back again - to knock into each other. Then, it's probably fine. The pieces may 'rub' together, but unless it's doing it repeatedly I doubt it's going to do any damage.

Is the cue varnished or oiled?

It's a single compartment case. I could hear them clicking around so I wrapped the extension in a duster and that works perfectly. The cue I believe is oiled, though i'm not sure. I'm tempted to buy a 3/4 length case and keep my old cue in the leather one.

Biggest pain in the ass is that it's a 1 piece case like I said so it's too long to fit in the back of my car and I have to thread it between the front seats.

My one piece leather case is the same, ie it doesn't have a divider in it, so i just wrap the extension in a thin yellow duster to stop it knocking against the cue

I think a varnished cue will be harder and less likely to develop dents in the wood than a non-varnished oiled cue. I always assumed that's why rack cues are varnished, because they're harder wearing.

Thanks... I can imagine those thickly varnished rack cues withstanding much abuse on and off table...

has anyone got a parris leather case? what are they like i like the case but in the mastercraft cue cases they have the egg foam and look like a snug fit for the cue its hard to tell how snug the parris cue is
