Replacing cue tip

Hi all

I have just an ordinary cue but have tried to replace the tip at least 3 times with no success - keeps falling off!

I quite like the cue - is it possible to replace the ferrule so that acceps screw in tips?

Come to that, are screw ins any good anyway?

I would very much appreciate any help, comments etc.

There is a tip fitting guide on here somewhere. Give me minute and i'll edit in a link for you.

What glue are you using? If your using the right glue (gel super glue (cynoacrilate etc)) it certainly shouldnt fall off!

Brilliant vid!

Tried UHU, superglue, 'special' cue tip cement.

I'm thinking of avoiding any future heartaches by converting to a screw in.

Don't know if it's possible though.

Screw in's are bad so dont go there.

Tip Cement needs time to cure (overnight really) and a tip clamp. Not worth the hassle imo.

Any gel super glue will work really, ive been using the 99p stuff from wilkinsons for the last month and it fine. No problems at all. Just make sure you prepare the ferrule correctly and the base of the tip to get a good surface. Also dont ever sand upwards, always downwards when shaping.

Although i bought some of this stuff http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUPERGLUE-...item5645643c37 which is great value presuming it sticks like poo to a blanket, not actually tried it yet.

If you struggling, You could always pay a fiver and let a pro do it.

Where abouts are you? There is loads of uk makers who will fit the tip for you.

I'm no expert by far. I've used Loctite Gel but I find it doesn't give me a lot of time to position the tip. I have the best luck with good old Tweeten's glue - put thin layer on the tip and the cue and WAIT 10 to 15 minutes so that it's tacky and then you can position tip gradually applying pressure with your thumb until you get it exactly where you want it. Then keep pressure on for 1 minute and I let it sit overnight(but you can shape it after 15 minutes).

an epoxy resin such as Araldite is the guaranteed answer - I've tried superglue gel and Tweeten's tip cement and had problems with the tip coming off or loose so I switched to epoxy resin with 100% success ...

the other thing to note, which is presumably in the tip-fitting guides, is to make sure you sand the base of the tip well to remove any surface dye or mould release agent because otherwise the glue will stick to that and not the tip itself ...

Gorrila super glue gives plenty of positioning time and is very strong. If time is not an issue, then evostick impact adhesive is unbeatable imho.
