Foul and free ball called on the last red. The player nominates the black, hits the black
and snookers his oponent behind the pink, however the black ball comes back in direct line to the red. So in a straight line you have cueball behind pink then black and finally red. Is this a foul ( 4 points)?

Certainly not, the pink is the snookering ball in this case so it is fine

No, it is not a foul. The nearest obstructing ball is considered to be the effective snookering ball, and seeing as that is the pink, it is a fair shot.

just another thought what if the pink is only slighlty blocking i.e. could hit 3/4 red if the black was not in the way

No it wouldn't. The pink is still the ball that is stopping the striker from hitting both sides of the object ball, so it is still the effective snookering ball.
