  • Fitting a 14mm tip to a smaller mm cue

Hi. I've started to get into pool lately and need to change the tip on my cue. The tip I want to use only comes in 14 mm sizes but my cue is much smaller so I'm just wondering how its done. My dad used to play pool alot and has retipped many times but has only ever used tips the same size as the cue so hes not sure either. Any other tips on retipping would be greatly appreciated.

Also whats the difference between varying hardness on tips. I would love to get an insight into that thanks.

Theres a few ways which you could do this . The old traditional way of just sanding down the tip to the desired size which would take forever . you can stick the tip on the turn the cue upside down placing the tip on something hard and trir the tip by shaving it a bit at a time whilst rotating it using a craft knife , or you could use a stanley blade and carefully trim the tip in a circular motion .

There are some good tools on the market for this like the joe porper tip trimmer . You will have the same trouble with the height of the tip , you could cut it in half to make two tips but make sure the tip is flat before fitting .

the trick with a 14mm tip is to knock it in a bit before you do the final cut and finish because they tend to mushroom a little. read my tip guide.
