  • Which set of rules are better?

    WPBSA 6 Reds

    1. There will be no more than five consecutive Foul and a Miss calls at anyone time.
    2. After four consecutive Foul and a Miss calls, the referee will warn the offending player that should a Foul and a Miss be called again the following options are available to the non-striker:
    (i) play himself from where the balls have come to rest;
    (ii) ask his opponent to play from where the balls have to come to rest;
    (iii) place the cue ball anywhere on the table, but this option cannot be taken if play has reached the “snookers required” stage.
    3. A player cannot snooker behind a nominated colour at any time.

    6 Red Snooker
    Below are the newly updated Rules that have been adopted by the IBSF, and under which the IBSF 6 Red Snooker Championships will be conducted:
    1. Delete the "Foul and a Miss" rule;
    2. After any foul, the incoming player has 3 options:
    • Play from where the balls have come to rest
    • Ask the opponent to play again from where the balls have come to rest
    • Play the cue ball from anywhere on the table, except when snookers are required;
    3. A player cannot snooker behind a nominated ball after potting a red ball.

    I thought after a press release by Jason Ferguson last year that the rules between the WPBSA and The IBSF would be the same! but after speaking with someone at The IBSF I am told that The WPBSA did not even consult The IBSF on the recent rule changes......... the plot thickens as I also know that previous statements made about co-operation and and working relationships between The WPBSA and The IBSF have all been for publicity on The WPBSA's behalf and there has actually been no intentions of doing so in reality.

    My investigations on this are continuing but there are lots of very annoyed people at The IBSF at the moment.

    I like the IBSF rules better and think it would be better for the WPBSA since there would be no interruptions while the balls are being re-set so in other words better for both the live audience and the TV audience.

    I also agree with your comments on the cooperation bit between WPBSA & IBSF as I have a small part in that and have seen what is happening first hand

      Terry I think it is absolutely despicable what The WPBSA have done to say that they will work in conjunction with another governing body in public to then turnaround and do what they want with no consultation, the recent changes in the rules is only one area where this has happened but it is also happening in in the coaching partnership too.

      If the WPBSA don't pull their finger out and start working with the people they have said they are working with then it will all backfire on them in the end, this is the first public piece of information about this which has been put out there to date and it will not be the last.

      I have a 6 page article ready to post about the coaching scheme between The WPBSA and The IBSF which I have been holding off posting for the past 4 months as I wanted to see where it was all going, although small steps have been made in my view they have not been big enough with what has been on offer. I can not wait to post my article up and show everybody what has been happening behind the scenes.
