  • Laminated or Pressed?

    Hi all,

I recently purchased a new Phoenix, 9mm, 1 piece cue from craftsmans in leeds (lovely cue it is). It came fitted with a black phoenix tip, the tip has since delaminated.

I'm not sure what tip to replace it with, the phoenix tip (laminated) felt totally different to the elkmaster tips that i used on my old cue. In saying that i don't want to go back to elkmaster due to them losing shape etc.

I have two brands in mind... pro granite and mw supertips, atm mw supertips seem to have the edge given some of the comments i've read about them on the net. any suggestions?

Hi Oneforseven... personally, I prefer MW supertips over Pro Granite. I also like the Pool Baron tips I bought from ADR147 on this forum.

If you've not given up hope on laminated tips, maybe you can try Talisman or Aurora tips. Two of my favourites.

There are so many different types and brands of tips available nowadays. Experiment around and I'm sure you'll find one that works best for you.

You won't go far wrong with MW supertips but that is my personal opinion of course.......

But it totally depends on what hardness of tip you perfer......:snooker:

Hi Onefurseven, funnily enough I was going to start a thread or ta least ask the question. I bought Progranite and used one for the first time last night, I was a bit gutted to be honest, I was expecting more. there may be some bedding in time that I have to allow for maybe but I thought the tip would be harder than it was and more responsive. Would be interested to hear views on this. Maybe I will try a Talisman hard next time. I could not recommend them after trying one but it may get better with time.

Hi Gooner52, I just changed from a Talisman hard to a MW super tip. Although it has only been two weeks but I have noticed the difference with more feel and cue ball response. For me I struggled getting good screw back with the Talisman. It must also be remembered that MW is much softer which is the other end of the scale compared to the Talisman hard. At this early stage I will stick with the MW tips.

Suggest you try Talisman soft first as I found the hard to be extremely hard, almost like having a block of wood on the tip.

Same here... I think Talisman soft should be hard enough for most players who are used to elks.

talisman soft or the phoenix medium are plenty hard enough for most folks.

I like Gooner tried a pro granate and just did not get on with it..it seemed to flatten out fairley quck for my liking and after 3 or 4 hrs playing with it i am afraid it had to get binned..

this is just my opinion of these tip.. if you can try one before you buy one.
