  • Questions regarding snooker rules.

Just a few questions regarding snooker rules.

If a player fouls- pots the with and lets say pots the blue while playing on a red. Does that mean the opposing player gets 9 points? or is it only the value of the highest foul which in this case would equal = 5?

Also if a player is snookered, how many times can he be asked to "re-take" the shot as he kept missing the object ball?

When can a free ball rule be brought into play?
And in the free ball rule, if I decided I was to play a free ball after the opponent fouled can I use this chance to snooker him, or must I play to pot the free ball.

If a red is potted and the cue ball follows in, does the red ball be placed back on the table or left in the pocket and out of the game?

    Hope ye can help

Only 1 foul can be counted per incident, therefore the maximum penalty is 7 points for any foul stroke which in this case would involve the black.

You cannot snooker behind a free ball unless only the pink and black remain on the table.

If a red is potted and the cue ball goes in-off, the red remains off the table and the white is in-hand for the opponent.

      Only just seen this topic.

If more than one rule is infrionged during the same stroke, then the highest value penalty (only) will apply, so in answer to the first question the penalty would be five points.

For the second question, a foul and amiss can be called until the non-offender is ahead by no more than the value of the points available on the table. However, missing the object ball is not automatically a F&M and due regard should be given to the ability of the player and the difficulkty of the snooker.

The free ball rule is only applicable when a player foulds, leaving the oncoming player snookered - ie he is not able to hit the two finest edges of any ball on.

If you nominate a free ball then that is the ball you must first hit with the cue ball. You don't have to play a pot, but you certainly can't snooker behind it *except*
      - when only pink and black remain on the table, when it is legal to snooker behind black taken as free ball
      - when the nominated free ball is not snookering you on *all* balls on (ie there maybe another colour snookering you on a different red).

Reds are generally not replaced on the table, although there are seven instances specified in the rulkes where reds can be replaced: after being cleaned r2(c)(ii), if one falls from the edge of a pocket (r9), if balls are replaced after F&M r14(f), during consultation after a miss r14(h), if moved other than by the striker r15 and if caused by the striker using faulty equipment r18(b). In your scenario the red would stay down.

even if a jump shot is played which hits the blue first knocking the green in the pocket and the brown off the table and going in off thats a 5 point penalty despite 5 fouls being committed in that shot

          Nice list for replacing reds.
I would clarify your last one by stating that the equipmemt must be that found at the table or provided by the referee. But that equipment provided by the player is not covered by this rule.
