Cue replacing tip on size

I recently purchased a Peradon Tournament snooker cue. It came with a 9 and half mm tip.

A Couple of Questions

1. If I was to use a bigger tip just say 10mm or 11mm would this work fine with the cue. A 11mm might look too big or might not work so well am I right in thinking this

2. My friend was wondering can he purchase a snooker cue with a non standard 11mm tip.
or will he have to buy a standard 9 and half mm cue then get it re tipped.

1. 9.5mm ferrule (the brass bit) with a 10/11mm tip. Most people have the tip trimmed down to match the ferrule and have it flush with it, i.e the tip is now 9.5mm as well. Some players have the tip flaring out from the ferrule, this is commonly called a mushroom tip.
Having the tip not trimmed down to the ferrule or a mushroom form can leave the overhang unprotected and can be prone to damage and chipping, not a good idea
2. Usually tips are available at larger sizes like 11mm (some only come in that size and have to be trimmed down), so if your friend gets a 11mm ferrule, he should have no problem finding a tip that will fit. But generally for snooker and UK pool a ferrule/tip over 10mm is out of fashion as it can prove difficult to control the cue ball to the requirements of the modern game. But saying that, many pros do you larger tips to great success

You can get tips in 9.5 mm but the choice is limited . I use a 9.5 and stick a 11mm on and leave the overhang but like Dean says most folk trim them flush . A 10 mm will do just fine with a little overhang .

putting a 9.5mm tip on a 9.5mm is almost impossible because the tolerances involved are not accurate enough. always better to buy bigger and cut it down.
