Making money as a pro

I was thinking the same... seems like it's not nearly as financially rewarding as many other sports or even some regular professions.

Must've been a big decision to turn pro for most unless the person already has financially freedom, for e.g. from a wealthy family etc. A fat bank account does wonders to your cue action, I would think!!

Exactly, Damienich,,, I am self employed and doing okay. If however I had a chance to go on the the pro tour it would be a HUGE decision because I would have to cover my income and hopefully plus earn more. Not so bad if your a top pro when your young living at home with mummy and daddy but if you have a wife and kids then it would get really tricky, that family pro with finaciial commitments would have loads more pressure to do well to earn. Imagine going on the tour and having to go back to the Mrs and kids with no money to show for. Maybe that's the true difference why the young play so more freely, they only have themselves to keep..

A mate of mine is three hundred and soemthing in the world at golf. Made his first million in 18 months on the main tour! Had two years on the challenge tour earning around 50k a year.

Just shows you the money available in other sports. I don't know if anyone else heard too at the Welsh Open recently but in the first round match between Judd Trump and Fergal O'brien, the commentator I think Terry Griffiths said this took Fergal O'briens career winnings to just over £1m.

Just shows you the sort of money in other sports, making your first £1m in 18 months in golf compared to how many years it has taken Fergal.

Golf has so much money because there is a tournament every week. You could count the snooker tournaments in a year on one hand (im not from Norwich!) not so long ago!

Golf is also a global mega sport, snooker is nowhere near that level in all sorts of ways.

Those golf boys travel like mad to earn the bucks. Literally all over the world every week, all year. Ronnie doesnt fancy that!

They earn so much though that they all have provate jets and family comes with most of the time. Or just leave the wife and kids at home in Florida lapping it up. Hard life.

If he was that dominant in golf (ala TW), then he'd be a billionairre!

Still, i doubt he worries too much about that.
