  • tip comes off

players are responsible for their own equipment they bring to the table,,,, So if a tip comes off and a ball rolls onto it
this would be a foul I presume ??

Never seen it happen but definitely would be a foul.

Did once see a player drop his chalk on the table.
It hit the black and was called a foul. And he lost the frame off it.

This would definitely be a foul. I can't quote you the rule but perhaps one of the refs on here can look it up.

I believe it reads any equipment supplied by the player concerned, so that includes the cue. But here is a little thing that's interesting...(in Canada not many clubs have X-head rests so a lot of players bring their own) so if I bring my own rest and I'm striker and the head drops off and fouls a ball it is a foul, however if I'm using a rest supplied by the club and the same thing happens then it's NOT a foul. Same if my opponent uses my rest and the head falls off it's not a foul either.

          Weird but wonderful!

            Relevant rule:

            18. Use of Ancillary Equipment
It is the responsibility of the striker to both place and remove any equipment he may use at the table.
            (a) The striker is responsible for all items including, but not limited to, rests and extensions that he brings to the table, whether owned by him or borrowed (except from the referee), and he will be penalised for any fouls made by him when using this equipment.
            (b) Equipment normally found at the table which has been provided by another party including the referee is not the responsibility of the striker. If this equipment should prove to be faulty and thereby cause the striker to touch a ball or balls, no foul will be called.
            (c) The referee will, if necessary, reposition any balls in accordance with Section 3 Rule 15 above and the striker, if in a break, will be allowed to continue without penalty.
You are only the best on the day you win.
