  • Cheating or Gamesmanship

Anthony Hamilton went for 17!! toilet breaks in his 18 frame match against Anthony McGill in last nights World Snooker qualifier . With most of them as long as 5 minutes!

    1. What is the rules on this?

    2. If its allowed should the rules be changed?

There is no specific rule on this.

The referee needs to assess whether there is a genuine reason for needing a loo break (eg a medical condition). If not then I think the ref would be in order to warn the player for ungentlemanly conduct, if the player asks to go too often. What is too often, though, is a matter of judgment of course.

Who's to say he didn't have upset tummy, he's not renown for it so I would say give him the benefit of doubt and monitor his next game and go from there.

          Sounds like gamesmanship to me.

With the speed of that match in mind, I would say, there was need for a toilet break at the end of every frame

Left the table 17 times? Come on, the referee should have at least stopped him and told him. How long did this add to the overall match?

A friend of mine went down to watch this match and told me the exact same, and that he thought Hamiltons etiquette left a lot to be desired. He did in fact leave the table after every frame apart from the second for periods up to 5 minutes, this must have put at least an hour onto the duration of the match.

The only rule I found that would cover this is where the rule book states that the referee has the option to firstly warn the player, then to dock a frame then the match, IF the referee were to decide that any players actions are unfair and persistent.

What about Mark King? He went after nearly every frame in the final session of his match against Luca Brecel, even went IN THE MIDDLE of one frame, and he'd gone just before it started!

Maybe they should instal toilet seats for both players instead of chairs? No need to leave the arena anymore, just enjoy your opponent making a century while taking a ****e, pure pleasure all the way...

Think that Selby and Ebdon should be forced to wear incontinence pants for the WSC.
