Are they both the "Tournament" balls ??? The newer the better in any case if you have a choice
Try weighing them, tournament balls are around 141 g each, whereas the cheaper one's are around 128 g each = massive difference

as jrc750 says, Aramith Tournament Champion balls are quite a bit heavier than normal balls so they really do roll well and less likely to drift off due to imperfections on the baize ... having said that, long straight pots as you mention snooker2011, I think are all about confidence - most people (including me) find straight pots at distance scary, so get frightened and grip too hard and hence don't deliver the cue straight ...

I prefer playing with Aramith TC's although I also think it is significantly harder to screw them back ... as a rough guide, I'd expect to be able to screw back twice as far with club balls than I can do with TC's ...

Nice comment about rolling across imperfections in the nap. Hadnt quite thought of that, but I bets its very accurate in what you're saying.

nb I also find following through much easier with TC's. Again heavier white doesn't lose it's momentum after contact with object ball opposed to a lighter white losing it's sting.

How much mate? We are playing with Tournament balls as our regular balls on the table. Combined with a nap cloth, this does not make things easy. If we had a speed cloth, no bother, but I wonder if lighter balls might be in order on a slower cloth; we ain't at the crucible on an ice rink.
Harder than you think is a beautiful thing.
