The biggest question of all. I'd say it is a mental issue and not to put too much pressure of yourself. Just enjoy your game, remember to practice your technique on every shot. The temptation when faced with an easy opening pot is to get over excited and rush the shot. Dont fall into this trap. Take as much time on every shot.
Above all else - enjoy your game.Always play snooker with a smile on your face...You never know when you'll pot your last ball.

snooker2011:
It's usually a mental issue which comes out in your technique by affecting your timing and rhythm. Try and develop a nice smooth rhythm when practicing and groove that into your natural technique.
However, that said, every player I have ever come across has both good and bad days, the problem is with the pros a bad day usually means they only have maybe 3 centuries in practice instead of 8 or 9 whereas for us amateurs we struggle to make a 40 break and on other days run a couple of centuries maybe.
It's jut a matter of degree. Stay relaxed and keep your rhythm and timing smooth. The best way to achieve this is slow feathers and a slow backswing. Steve Davis used a piano metronome to get his rhythm grooved when he was young but having a very slow tune in your head also works for some players.

Thats right it is all in your mind. The beauty of snooker is not only the physical attributes but the temperment or the mindset we have to also hone to become consistently good at potting and positioning. As Terry says we get excited at what is in front of us and we invariably fall down, usually on a simple pot too.
Try looking at each shot as your first shot, because usually you will pot the first red + colour and fail on maybe the next red so by treating each shot as the first you will train yourself to go thru the pre shot routine everytime and not rushing each shot.

For me , it's other external pressures . The Mrs , Work .....usual stuff . So concentration is very bad .
Played terrible on Monday [ hangover from 2 days drinking didn't help ] . Played in a comp last night and had a 49 in the 1st match and a 71 in the 3rd match . So , for me , it really depends on works going on upstairs !!!Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

I was playing awful the other day, 6-0 down and struggling badly. I pulled myself together by telling myself to try and enjoy playing (which was very hard to do at the time). Suddenly I had 107, 78, 69, 68 and 55, and 59 to pull back to 6-5. I eventually won 8-7, and found form from absolutely no-where, which I put down to positivity, stopping stressing about poor play and trying to realise it supposed to be fun!I often use large words I don't really understand in an attempt to appear more photosynthesis.
