Hi I have an 8ft snooker table I'm refurbishing. I'm replacing all the rubbers cloth and I'm also rubbing down the side rails taking all the varnish off and re varnishing. This is my question I've bought varnish gloss but it's not finished like the high gloss finish that was on there before. Does anyone know the varnish or lacquer that is needed onto hardwood mahogany to bring a high gloss slippery finish? Thanks

I am sure you will be fine with that. I am sure a boat gets more hammer than a table. When I have varnished stuff I have always put on thin coats and sanded between them. Once you put a coat on and it doesn't raise any roughness you can stop.
If the wood underneath is good quality it will look great.王可

Honestly, If its tough you want then bourneseal is ideal, put the first coat on then wirewool rub down when dry, clean with white spirits and apply a second coat. If need be you can apply a third one, I have applied 3 coats to a mahogany staircase and it its so hard its unreal plus its a lovely finish particularly on dark wood. My grandad put me into it as he was a painter and decorater and knows his stuff.....
