Hi vmax i bought a box of these a few months ago on good advice on here for a softish pressed tip, well ive never come across as hard a box of pressed tips in all the years ive played, these were ROCK hard, every last one, almost impossible to sand also. Now maybe i received a dud box of something else though they were purchased from a very reputable site, any thoughts on this?

They are strange tips indeed, seem very hard to sand and shape but when played with they do have a soft feel to them on contact with the cue ball. I found that they flatten very easily too and need reshaping almost after every session, of course it could be that mine were faulty whereas yours weren't, who knows.
Myself I like the feel of a new tip and go through about one every two months so I tried the Blue Velvet hoping they would stay soft for longer but I felt that they were too soft for me so I went back to Elkmaster.

got to admit i think elkmaster are the best of the soft tips for allround play, mikes tips are harder but they have a gd all round game as well, the harder tips just seem to skid of when putting lots of side on

Unlike most pressed tips the blue velvet seem to start off hard and soften with play. They do the a bit more sanding but given the chance end up pretty soft, somewhere between an elk and a blue diamond is my own experience of them

Had a match on Sunday and had a good practice with the Jupiter - Very, very soft. Even playing 8 ball, the tip needed loads of shaping right the way through the night - way too soft for snooker IMHO.

Many years ago, I seem to remember a guy having quite a high, domed tip that felt almost moist to the touch. It was soft, but not so soft that it lost it shape, but it was very springy - any ideas or was it a home made jobbie ?

I had a similar experience with a cheap laminate tip that swelled up and started seperating, but played really well until it eventually fell off!

The tip was fine, in as much as it didn't fall apart or anything, but just needed constant tlc all night. I've never had a tip mushroom so quickly. Nice 'touch' tip, but just found it really annoying !

the tips are soft but give good feel but after afew hours they shouldent need to be shaped again

Perhaps that one was a dud then, I can always try the other one. You are right, they do give a good feel, just if it was anymore mushroom like, I would have expected to find a gnome sat on it !
