I used to watch time and time again Ronnies third round match against Ali Carter in the 2007 Northern Ireland Trophy which he won 5-2 scoring 5 centuries including a maximum. He became the only player to win a match in a ranking tournament by compiling a century break in every winning frame.
Damn, that's a good one, put on my 'watch later' list! My favourite match was the PTC final between Judd and Ronnie even if Ronnie didn't win they both played incredibly and it was all one visit snooker, shame it was only best of 7...
Looking for good matches to watch of Ronnie, when he's playing at his best on YouTube when im bored this summer... Any suggestions?
Thanks
The problem with ROS is that his best is not necessarily in matches, but happens in frames or in a particular time out of nowhere (and still loses). In the past, I've found watching certain frames of him entertaining because I was eager for that one crazy frame. Overtime, after 2010 I think, I've grown fondly of watching entire matches because his game becomes so much more complete.
Frame:
92 break 2012 WC final v Carter
147 break 2008 WC v Williams
147 break in 1997 WC v Price
76 break 2008 Northern Ireland Trophy v Harold
128 break 1996 Masters v Bond
72 break 2010 World Open Final v Robertson
125 break 2004/5 WC left handed century v Carter
139 break 2009 UK Champ v Higgins
Session:
2008 WC Semi final v Hendry sessions 2 and 3
2004 Masters final v Hunter session 1
Match:
2005 Masters Final v Higgins
2006 Masters Final v Higgins
2007 Masters final v Ding,
2007 Northern Ireland Trophy v Carter
2009 Masters v Maguire, v Perry, v Selby
2010 Masters Semi Final v Williams,
2012 German Masters v Higginson & v Perry
2012 WC ROS matches
Should be all searchable in youtube. Others feel free to add
Wow some great suggestions, love the 128, he used to be a bit tubby hahha, seen the 92 and 76 but i must have a look at the Others!
72 v robertson is very simliar to those above
youtube has a clip of the match divided by frame. i dont remember which frame it was. robertson won 5-1 in that final. basically he won that one frame with that 76. so, wikipedia would point you to which frame and you can look for it.
As breaks go, his winning break in the deciding frame of the 2005 Welsh Open final against Hendry was a pretty good one as well. I've no idea what it was though.
I think his most impressive "demolitions" have probably been the 2005 and 2007 Masters finals, and the 2007 UK final. The WC wins over Hendry were good as well, and also the 2004 final against Dott, which was much better than his two finals against Carter in my opinion.
If you're looking for closer matches, the 2009 Masters final is pretty good, and also his two WC wins over Mark Williams in 2008 and 2010.
there were 3 centuries from 1997 Masters Final v Davis. the first, second frames, and the first frame of the evening session. those really were breathtaking, even more so than the 128 against bond in my opinion.
they used to be on youtube. not sure now...
Re:Odrl
quite right. 2007 UK final too.
A few more:
1999 WC semi v Hendry session 3
Tight matches that Ronnie played well but lost
1997 Victoria Charity Challenge v Hendry
2009 UK champ v Higgins
Other good matches:
2008 Welsh Open v Murphy i think....orverall tournament in general
For me, his best has to be world title of 2001. He beat the hardest possible opponent at the highest profile event final.
Beating a very tough match player like Selby with a 147 in a decider was pretty special.
Sure he played some flawless snooker against guys like Carter, etc. No disrespect to those guys who are great players in their own right, but many of them already lost before the first ball was struck. Ronnie was under no pressure there at all.
