  • World Snooker scoreboard question

    Greetings,

I grabbed a screenshot of the scoreboard while watching the PTC:
    scoreboard4.jpg
I'm guessing that the line of numbers pointed at by the red arrow is a running shot tally of some sort. I would further guess that the numbered entries correspond to points scored, and that the Ps represent defensive (?) shots; but I would appreciate it if someone could clarify what this is used for, and what the P stands for, and what the subscripts are (I can't make them out on my screenshots), and anything else about it.

    Thanks

This looks like a simple visualisation of the buttons the recorder has pressed. Presumably P stands for Pass (from one player to another)?

Normally a marker will also 'record' the match, and not all shots played, whether they be scoring shots, safety etc. The buttons on the zappers though, are rather more basic, and simply record different balls and fouls.

Yes. There are quite a few symbols.
C (commencement of frame; when the clock starts)
      P (player change)
      1,4,1,4 (balls potted)
      F4 (foul 4 etc.)
Alongside some fouls there is the possibility of (RR) - meaning removed red (which otherwise couldn't be taken account of because it's a ball that's gone without being scored. The scorer has to enter this manually and it does occasionally get forgotten)
      EOF (end of frame)

I don't think there are any specific marks for Play Again (or replace after a Miss), just the P to change back to the original player, but I may be wrong there.

Just to complete your query, the subscripts are just commas, so don't have any significance apart from making it easier to read.

since the break reads 3,1,5,1,7,1,5,1 ... I also guess you have to read it from right to left and new entries are added on the left rather than the English norm of left to right seems a bit illogical to me unless it was an Arabic programmer that wrote the scoring software

Yes, that's right. Each score gets added to the left-hand end of the string, and it all scrolls along a bit, finally disappearing off the right-hand edge of the screen. Don't know why it's that way round, but there you go!

Yes, that would appear to be the case.

Hello there. I know what every action on the scoreboard does and I am currently looking for a developer to create a replic of the scoreboard. 1-7 means Red-Black. P means Player. C means Clock. F:4-7 means Foul 4-7. EOF means End of Frame. FB means Freeball. There are 13 buttons on the zapper 7 buttons for Red-Black. M button for Menu. C button for Clock. P button for Player. W button for Win. F button for Foul, and E button for Error. For a freeball, the marker presses F twice. On the Menu there are 9 options. They are listed from top to bottom:
                  Force Frame Win
                  Swap Players Sides
                  Restart Match
                  Re-Rack
                  Player Concedes Match
                  End Match
                  End Session
                  Load Next Match
                  View Instructions
