  • How often to change your cue tip?

Ive only recently started playing regularly again and im guessing my tip hasnt been changed for around 5 years or so. The cue wasnt used for around 3-4 years since i starting playing again a few months back.

So im just wondering shall i change my tip for a new one?

    Cheers,

    Nick

Yes, Change the tip as you havent used it for a very long time. Later you could change it when you feel the tip needs to be changed. There is no regular period for changing a tip. It depends on the usage. You may change it when its almost flat.

You change your tip as the doom shape is completely lost! If you are playing pool with average tip size 12mm -14mm, use a nickle to check fo the doom shape. If you are playing snooker with average tip size from 9mm - 10 mm, use a dime.

Most tips are too thick on the tip. You have to use sand paper to get rid of the edge to about 1/2 mm and then use a tip shaper to cut the top until it forms a proper doom. I like Mke wooldridge's way - a mushroom tip by putting an oversized 10mm tip to my 9.5mm cue (Deformed mushroom is weak, but new mushroom is great!)

Tomorrow I'll be on my 3rd tip in two weeks!
I decided to go back to 9mm, but haven't been entirely happy,so will try 10 or 11mm.
I play on average 3 times a week and would say I change my tip about every six months.

For snooker 9.5mm seems to be the best! The range is 9mm - 10mm. Never go beyond 10mm for snooker. Go to Mike Wooldridge's website; he has a comprehensive documentation for this. A snooker coach from HK's South China Sport Club told me to use a new mushroom tip just the same way as Mike Wooldridge did. It works great!
