  • Qualifiers - Making up the numbers

As we know, there are 4 players in the top 64 of the world not currently playing for one reason or another (O'Sullivan, Hendry, Lee and Jogia). How then, do they decide who replaces them in qualifying for ranking events? I notice Justin Astley has been given a spot to try and qualify for the World Open, even though John Astley has by far the better record in PTCs (for example).

What criteria are they using to see who gets to make up the numbers to the usual 96?

Ah right I see! Makes sense I suppose. I'm guessing that if they do well, they get the money but not the ranking points?

Yes the "amateurs" get the money if they win enough matches

Thats for the PTC's. I meant the actual ranking events normally only open to the 96 tour pros. These don't count towards the OoM.
