As the originator of the question, I must apologise if I did not explain it clearly. Thanks to Robert602 who summarised exactly what I had in mind. Having read the replies and thought about it a bit more, I am firmly of the opinion that the referee would be quite entitled to warn the player that a repeat of such behaviour will result in the frame being awarded against him.
I cannot see how lying to the referee and attempting to gain an advantage other than through skill can be seen as anything other than "unfair" play.
