My buddy has a snooker cue that he has altered. He has carved in deep grooves in the butt end of the shaft so his fingers fit in the grooves when he holds the cue. Is this an illegal cue?? If someone has the answer to this I would appreciate it...Thank you

probably not a good idea but not illegal, as long as it is over 36" in length, no problem
also I think he may need to see a coach to sort out his grip and/or a psychiatrist for mutilating a cue

Saw a guy once who did something similar he put a bicycle handlebar rubber on the butt of his cue which again had the grooves for his fingers.Comment

Jimmy White, Willie Thorne, Tony Meo, Stephen Hendry (junior pot black 1983) in the early 80's and Alex Higgins in 1990 had insulation tape on the butt of their cues.Comment
