  • Snooker cue Alteration question

My buddy has a snooker cue that he has altered. He has carved in deep grooves in the butt end of the shaft so his fingers fit in the grooves when he holds the cue. Is this an illegal cue?? If someone has the answer to this I would appreciate it...Thank you

probably not a good idea but not illegal, as long as it is over 36" in length, no problem
also I think he may need to see a coach to sort out his grip and/or a psychiatrist for mutilating a cue
    Up the TSF! :snooker:

DrzDave, could you ever get access to it so we could see some pics? I'm curious is all.

I could probably get a pic, and DeanH's suggestion that he should see a psychiatrist makes sense, but my buddy would need a whole team of them..thx for the replies

Many people think unconventional ideas but only a small handful are brave or foolhardy enough to actually put them into actions.

Kudos to your mate, Drzdave... although I do think it's all rather silly and unnecessary, but who am I to judge...

Saw a guy once who did something similar he put a bicycle handlebar rubber on the butt of his cue which again had the grooves for his fingers.

Jimmy White, Willie Thorne, Tony Meo, Stephen Hendry (junior pot black 1983) in the early 80's and Alex Higgins in 1990 had insulation tape on the butt of their cues.

                  Wrapped all the way round?

I've seen a few people wrap one turn off tape just above where their hand goes so they know where to hold the cue

And Alan McManus had tape over his centre joint to hold it together.

Jimmy, Tony, Willie & Stephen had the tape on the last 4 inches or so of the butt and Alex had tape on the last 10 inches approx.
